Thank you for your interest in working for the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum. We currently have Volunteer and Internship positions available.

Position Identification: Museum Intern

  • Reports To: Volunteer Coordinator
  • Term of Position: Two months minimum commitment

Description

  • Multidisciplinary position working with the Museum Supervisor, Volunteer Coordinators and staff. Interns are responsible for working with museum guests and monitoring the galleries as well as participating in public activities and programs as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Provide excellent customer service to guests.
  • Assist staff at events and workshops as well as with general museum operations.
  • Answer general questions about the museum, the collection and Rosicrucian Park.
  • Learn and present gallery talks, tomb tours, and facilitate activities as needed.
  • Monitor the museum by walking the galleries and tomb and reporting any issues to museum management and/or staff.
  • Inform guests of museum rules, as necessary.
  • Help out in any way necessary according to the needs of the museum.

Additional Opportunities May Include:

  • Create special workshops and programs with guidance and permission of Museum Supervisor and Volunteer Coordinators.
  • Work on special projects with management and staff.

Qualifications

  • An interest in Anthropology, Archaeology, Art, History, Egyptology, Museum Studies, Theatre arts and/or public speaking are highly desirable. Current college enrollment in such subjects is a plus. A background security check is required of all applicants.

Interns will receive introductory training and must familiarize themselves with the museum and the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC, so they are able to answer basic questions related to both.

Interns are asked to commit to two months of service, which will include the training period. Internship may extend beyond two months if desired. This is not a paid position and includes no promise of future employment.

Position Description: Volunteer

  • Department: Museum
  • Reports to: Volunteer Coordinator & Assistant Volunteer Coordinator
  • Customary Work Hours: Variable
  • Customary Workdays: Variable

Specific volunteer positions:

  • Library Assistant- aids Librarian and library staff in projects, including regular maintenance of the collection, book repair, accessioning and processing new books, cataloguing, archival work and online database work, depending on the skill level and time available of the volunteer. Training is available on a case-by-case basis as needed.
  • Volunteer Docents- learn talks of museum and park to give to public, staff information table and assist public with answers
  • Outreach Activities-represent and promote the museum and participate in outreach activities in the community
  • Office/Clerical- aid office staff with filing, phone calls, and typing
  • Activity Aide- help develop, train and run summer programs, kid activities, workshops, and events
  • Landscaping- pruning, raking and general park maintenance
  • Events- helps with special events that occur in the Park
  • Workshops- help the activity coordinator with the various museum workshops.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Reports to Volunteer Coordinator and Assistant Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Works with the local community to build programs.
  • Assists in recruitment, selection, and placement of volunteers to meet the Museum’s needs.
  • Assists volunteer orientation, and training, to ensure consistent, high quality service to the Museum.
  • Develops goals and objectives for the volunteer services with the Staff Supervisor/Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Maintains volunteer services and hours.
  • Maintains volunteer pamphlets in the Museum.
  • Maintains volunteer schedule and assigned duties.

Volunteer Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Interest in Egyptian culture and its history, with a desire to share that knowledge with others.
  • The ability to speak in public to various audiences and individuals.
  • Fluency in English is required; fluency in a second language is a plus.
  • Must be able to work with relatively high levels of background noise at times and with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to communicate accurately and extemporaneously with museum visitors.
  • Must be able to grasp situations, have good judgment and be able to seek good advice in order to make necessary decisions.
  • Must be able to walk for up to 4 hours with scheduled breaks throughout the day.
  • Must be able to deal with the public, solve problems in a positive manner, and communicate information in an engaging manner.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to support the overall goals of the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC.

Yearly fees:

  • Museum Membership

We want to provide the freedom to the volunteers to have as little or as much responsibility as they choose, however we want this to be a beneficial relationship for both the park and the volunteer. Beginning volunteers will have a 30-day introductory period. Unapproved Absences will result in termination of volunteer agreement. A yearly commitment of 3 months, 8 hours per month minimum will be required. This would take into account those volunteers that only can volunteer for the summer and those that only come in for 1 day a month. Training usually consists of Volunteer Coordinator training sessions, tour guide training sessions (manager approved), staff meetings, etc.
